Deirdre Sullivan is an award-winning writer and teacher from Galway. She has written eight books for young adults, including Savage Her Reply (Little Island 2020), and a collection of short fiction, I Want To Know That I Will Be Okay (Banshee Press 2021).

Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin writes books, screenplays and songs and works predominantly in the Irish language.

McArdle, SJ

SJ McArdle is an Irish songwriter and musician, known for his previous work in award-winning Irish folk band Kern and his career as a singer-songwriter in Nashville and Germany, which produced 2014’s critically-acclaimed Blood and Bones album. SJ is also one third of Long Woman’s Grave, featuring Nuala Kennedy and Trevor Hutchinson.

Jan Carson at the Leuven Centre for Irish Studies

Brilliant Belfast writer Jan Carson visits the Leuven Centre for Irish Studies for a reading and Q&A on 27 March in Barboék Leuven, at 6 pm CET. Jan is a fiercely original writer, who often uses magical elements in her short stories and novels as she tries to make sense of Northern Ireland's tumultuous past and present. Her powerful novel about fatherhood, The Fire Starters, won the EU Prize for Literature in 2019 and her most recent novel, The Raptures received raving reviews. A short story series commissioned by BBC radio 4 came out as The Last Resort in 2021.

Jan Carson at Ghent University

Location:

Northern Irish author Jan Carson will be in Ghent on 23 March 2023 for an afternoon of reading and and conversation.

Jan Carson, winner of the EU Prize for Literature for The Fire Starters in 2019, will be touring around Belgium and the Netherlands in March and we are happy to welcome her for an afternoon of reading and conversation.

The author will read some excerpts from her works and converse with the audience, with a Q&A session. A book signing is foreseen.

The event will take place in English. No registration needed.

On Wednesday 22 March 2023 the Antwerp EFACIS Centre for Irish Studies welcomes Northern Irish writer Jan Carson, following her latest book The Raptures. 

7.30 - 8.30 pm: Jan Carson reads from her own work, followed by an interview
