William Keohane at Charles University Prague

  2. William Keohane at Charles University Prague

I wasn't sure what to expect going in. I thought it would be just another typical poetry reading, but Boxing Day was really surprising. It was intense, in a good way. The way the poems were projected on the wall while William Keohane read them made the whole thing feel immersive, like we were part of it. Some of he poems hit really hard, especially the ones about waiting and changing identity. I didn't know much about the issues around trans healthcare in Ireland before this, andthe performance made it feel very real and personal.

William's performance really pulled me in. The poems were all shaped like little boxes, which seemed a bit strange at first, but it actually made sense, especially thanks to William's explanation of his creative process and his dissertation afterwards. Both the performance and the choice of venue worked together as well, as they are "works in progress".
