Catriona Shine grew up in Co. Limerick and now lives in Oslo. Her debut novel, HABITAT, published by the Lilliput Press in 2024, was a Sunday Times, Irish Times and The Journal Most Anticipated Book of 2024 and longlisted for the McKitterick Prize. HABITAT has been described as:
'...striking, elliptical debut that deconstructs towers of dwelling and hubris. [...] an Irish writer whose work is refreshingly removed from the "literary debut" tropes in her homeland.' (Hilary White, The Irish Independent)
'Habitat is brilliant - a sort of social experiment combined with allusions to the climate crisis, great characters and even short interludes where the walls, doors, windows and foundations are given a voice.' (Rick O'Shea)
'Shine's gaze is fresh, observant and unsettling. Habitat is an inventive and compelling read, a remarkable debut from an immensely talented writer.' (Danielle Mclaughlin)
'Habitat is an uncanny fable of, and for ,a disintegrating world - a bold and strikingly original debut from a sophisticated new voice in Irish fiction' (Lucy Caldwell)
'It's a wonderful oddity when a debut novel is truly uncategorisable, trailblazing with no comparisons readily available.' (Aimie Walsh, RTÉ)
