A Reading and Conversation with Lucy Caldwell at the University of Hamburg

Getting to meet Lucy Caldwell was profoundly enriching. The readings from her short stories "Mayday" and the yet unpublished "A Family Christmas" intertwined beautifully with her incisive reflections on narrating the female body, the architecture of short stories, the vital act of unveiling untold stories, subverting conventional narratives and so much more, rendering the event truly unforgettable. I was mesmerized by her voice and her way of precisely and yet sometimes so tenderly articulating and anwering complex topics as well as our personal questions; the event as a whole embodying the "quantum leap" she strives to create in her storytelling.

Lucy Caldwell's incredible way to cature and narrate diverse experiences of womanhood was eye-opening. Her skilful writing is based on a deep connection to humanity and illuminates the undertold, often misunderstood complexities of life. Her honest and raw answers to our questions and her dedication to the craft of writing were inspiring and provided new points of view on the seminar topics, such as motherhood, pregnancy, abortion and sexuality. Thank you for this incredible event!
