"It was truly a privilege to have the opportunity to attend Emilie Pine's lecture, "A Question of Recovery: Writing after Witnessing". I found it to be a wonderful presentation and an intellectually enrichting experience from which I learned a lot. I was particularly struck by the way the author explained the importance of the dialogue between memory, testimony, and literature. The idea that this artistic discipline can function as therapy, enabling individuals to process deeply traumatic experiences and, in doing so , communicate a collective experience, was especially compelling. Her thoughtful discussion of vulnerability and the ethical responsibilities of storytelling was very insightful as well, as these ideas transcend Irish literature and can be applied to any form of artistic expression. The presentation was both engaging and thought-provoking, and I greatly appreciated the opportunity to hear her speak and to reflct on these important matters from the perspective of a contemporary writer."
