Founded in February 2024, WAÉIRE is an academic platform for Irish Sudies made up of a team of teachers, researchers and students from various universities in Western Andalusia, including the University of Córdoba, the University of Huelva, the University Pablo de Olavide (Seville) and the University of Sevilla. 

Based on a common interest in researching the different cultural and artistic manifestations of Ireland, the platform has the following objectives: 

  • to promote Irish studies as an area of analysis at the higher education level; 
  • to promote the interest of the academic communicty and society in general in Irish Studies, with a scope that is not only local, but also regional, national and international; 
  • to establish synergies in the university context that allow for joint actions (seminars, projects, conferences, training workshops, meetings, etc.) dedicated to Irish Studies; 
  • to disseminate and make visible activitites, publications, and initiatives related to Ireland; 
  • to explore the representations of Irish identity throughout history; 
  • to analyse the lirerary and artistic approaches to issues of social relevance to both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, and the Irish diaspora. 

Within Irish Studies in general, WAÉIRE's main lines of research are the following:
